    Silk browser (Kindle Fire) limitations?

Figured it out!!!!! From the factory, Flash is NOT enabled. You have to go into the settings to turn on Flash. Once I did on both Kindle Fire's, the site worked beautifully.

    Silk browser (Kindle Fire) limitations?

I have built a site for a customer that wants to view it on their Kindle Fire. Even though the documentation says it supports Flash, I have some Flash text that is not showing up on it. I even went so far as to purchase a Kindle Fire for my own testing and I'm having similar issues. I thought...

Image Zoom photo gallery issue. Help!!!

I am building a photo gallery for a client of mine and I want to have his images Zoom in. I am sure there is a much easier way to do this, but his budget is small. Is there a way to keep the background of the table consistant so that when I switch to a portrait oriented image, it doesn't...

Keeping a scrolling picture javascript active through navigation

Now THAT makes sense... No wonder frames are "SO" last decade... Thanks! Any suggestions as to how to accomplish this?

Keeping a scrolling picture javascript active through navigation

Well aside from the fact that frames are "so" yesterday... is there any reason NOT to use them in this instance?

Keeping a scrolling picture javascript active through navigation

I already have the slider, just want it to keep scrolling and locked in above the navigation bar. The area below the nav bar will be all that changes, thus I was thinking frames.

Keeping a scrolling picture javascript active through navigation

I'm trying to build a website in which I will have a scrolling bar of pictures rolling and below it have a navigation bar. I'd like to keep the javascript picture scroller on all of the subsequent pages, but I don't want it to start over each time you click a nav button. 10-15 years ago, I'd...

Computer hardware question - 3 monitors

It does help. Probably in 6 months, I'll be in a better financial position and able to afford a much better PC (or Mac!). For now, I just have to live with the equipment I have and upgrade it as I can. The RAM upgrade will also help one of our other computers since I'll be pulling the 1 gig...

Computer hardware question - 3 monitors

I have an older Dell Optiplex 330 machine as my design PC. I'm upgrading as much as I can to avoid having to buy a new machine. I already ordered 4 gigs of RAM (maxs it out) and am now looking into a new video card. I want to be able to run 3 monitors (I already have 3 - 17" monitors on hand...

What am I missing by not upgrading?

I thought Wordpress was more of a blogging tool. I have never even touched it myself.

    Need some Photoshop help

I have a roofing customer that wants some pictures of some of their metal roofs Photoshopped to show what the house would look like in other of their shades. The lines created from the standing seam roofing are VERY faint. My first attempts made it look like I did it in Paint. Which...

What *essential* skills are needed to be a web designer?

That's the best breakdown I've ever seen. It's amazing how many job descriptions you look at (I've been looking for work for 16 months now) that cross-over all of these things and have them all jumbled up. I saw one looking for a Web Designer paying 10-15 an hour that must have experience with...

Which browsers do you test your sites on?

Back "in my day", I would test my sites in IE and Netscape because they were pretty much the only games in town in the browser market. Now it seems like there's a new browser coming out every day. I'm guessing that IE8, Firefox and Safari seem to be the default browsers to test in. Is...

What am I missing by not upgrading?

Hey... what's wrong with tables? They were all the rage in 1999... :D Honestly, though... some of my best former work was in tables. I have a lot to learn! Looks like the 2 (or 3) - 17" screens will be the winner. I'll save the flat screen TV for the bedroom - since that's my...

What am I missing by not upgrading?

Sorry - I didn't mean for that to come accross as attitude. In re-reading what I posted, I can see how it came accross that way, though. I really do appreciate the advice in here. Like I said, I'm a bit of an old dog trying to re-learn some old tricks hoping to add some new tricks as well...

What am I missing by not upgrading?

I use dreamweaver mainly because a) I have it b) I like the split screen gui and code view and c) I have it. Oh, and it's pretty easy to use. I've been out of the loop for a while - I'll have to familiarize myself with HTML5. I will look into Inkscape. If it's as good as you say, I may...

What am I missing by not upgrading?

I am getting ready to "hang out my shingle" and start building websites again professionally. I have been out of the game since about 2000 when I worked as a web design consultant. I have dabbled a bit since, and my software is out of date a bit. I am running Macromedia Dreamweaver 8...

    Go to college OR self-teach?

I would personally do a combination of both. The nice thing about a classroom setting is that you get face to face interaction with other students and teachers that have different levels of skill. Doing it yourself, it's easy to do something "wrong" and never know it because you may not know...

What type of font should i use for my lgo

Font logos can be some of the most fun and most challenging, but there is a fine line between "just another word" and a logo. Sometimes it's as simple as adjusting the kerning between two letters that turns a word into a logo, other times it's the typeface itself. I am often times amazed at...
