Short-term vs long-term storage planning

Have you ever packed up your whole place in Dubai and then realized you do not actually know if you need storage for two weeks or two years?

I had that moment last summer when my landlord decided to sell and I had 10 days to clear out. I shoved my life into boxes at 2 a.m., taped everything shut, and slept on a camping mat. At first I thought it was a short-term problem, so I tried the cheapest, fastest option: store a few things with a friend, sell some on Dubizzle, and keep the rest in the car. That lasted exactly three days in July heat, and I started worrying about my books curling and my electronics cooking.

What I learned is short-term storage is all about speed and access. You need easy drop off, flexible billing, and you will probably open the unit more than once because you forgot something basic (kettle, work shoes, the one cable you need). Long-term storage is a different mindset. You are paying for calm. You want proper wrapping, pest control, and a plan for what you will not touch for months. I ended up using household storage Dubai for the long stretch while I waited for a new lease, and I labeled everything like I was moving countries.

My rule now:
* Under 4 weeks: prioritize access and convenience.
* Over 2 months: prioritize protection and inventory (photos help).
* In between: depends on how settled your next place really is.

Dubai moves can be sudden, so I try to plan for the longer scenario even when I hope it is short.
