Javascript photo pop out not working, yet script works fine

Hi, i have a problem getting a Javascript photo pop up widget called 'ClearBox' to run. I've used this before on other sites and it works fine, i've even copied all of the necessary elements into a new file and it works fine there, so there must be something in my page code or HTML that is...

    Headers and footers best practice?

This seems like it should be fundamental, but i can't seem to find a simple way of doing this. I have a site which is laid out centrally (margin: 0 auto; ) with a width of 1000px, but i want a chunky black line that extends infinitely across the browser window edge to edge top and bottom...

    Background Body image not visible

I am building a winter/summer site with which all pages bar one are from the same template file. The one on it's own is just coloured differently, i.e. links and images. I've given the <body id ="summer"> and created separate CSS rules all prefixed with #summer for all of these rules which work...

    CSS Class Question

Taken so long to write this what with work and all, you’ve probably got what you need now, but as someone still fairly new to the wonderful world of web design and a Dreamweaver user, my advice would be; Don’t be limited by what Dreamweaver can do, it only gives you the tip of the Iceberg and it...

I urgently need your advice on this please.

Maybe you can take some pointers from here... http://www.w3.org/community/webed/wiki/Main_Page. It's a bit advanced for the age group, but you could par it down.

Working practices with / without CSS3

Thanks, i'm liking your attitude, there are so many articles out there saying we have to consider every possible user. Although in this instance the client is a school and their PC's and Internet access are maintained by the local authority so they are marooned on IE8 island, so i have to use...

Working practices with / without CSS3

Following the 'acceptance' of CSS3 as a standard, I want to ask people’s opinion on what’s the best way of working with it. Recently I tried to validate the CSS of a website I’d designed (as it’s a school they are keen to show compliance) using some CSS3, but the result was approx 22 errors...

No CSS showing at all in IE8

Cheers Ben, it worked! Deleted and relinked. Although they weren't 'empty' style tags, they were media queries for smaller displays that i had been fiddling about with, but hadn't thought they may confuse poor old IE8.

No CSS showing at all in IE8

I'll give it a try, but i've been testing it in Adobe's Browser lab (browserlab.adobe.com) and seems to render fine in IE9

No CSS showing at all in IE8

This site i'm working on is fine when viewed in all the latest browsers, but in IE8 none of the CSS is being recognised (not just the CSS3 bits). It displays as if the style sheet link is broken. I've tried adding the following meta coding <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8" />...

Is there any way to add a search function to a regular website?

Is there any way to add a search function to a regular website? By that i mean a static, non dynamic site, just wondered if anyone knew of any clever jQuery plug ins or such like, is it even possible without PHP/mySQL wizardry?

    Recommend a web design course

Thanks for all your comments, i have done a few w3schools tuts and found them a great ref source. Upon delving into my first web design 'learning book' several years ago, I took the decision to skip the 'tables' section and that CSS was clearly the way forward. My biggest problem is not...

Not sure what my next learning step should be

If you want to get stuck into Dreamweaver you can do a lot worse than try this book, it has lots of tutorials and demonstrates & explains code and WISIWYG editing, basics of CSS, it also refs Fireworks, and is easy to follow. I bought it way back for CS3 (lots of versions available) and found it...

    Recommend a web design course

I've been working in the design industry for 15 years, mainly in in Graphic & Product design, but in recent years have got more involved in designing websites (mainly fairly simple CSS led presentation type, front end sites, with some basic PHP/Java thrown in), which originally started several...

Thanks for the feedback Dave - and grammar correction, ironically copied from text supplied to me by the client! It's IE v9 I'm having problems with.
