    Data Entry for online directory

I need businesses added to an online directory by an experienced data entry clerk. Salary to be decided upon and this will be on an ad hoc basis. The data must be high quality and in perfect English, so I'm looking for someone based in the UK. Obviously you can work from home for this...

    The UK's Best

I've just created this site, was fed up of all the rubbish directories out there that didn't make it easy to find things and that promoted the people that paid the most. I wanted a directory that was ordered by customer reviews to highlight the actual best businesses in categories/areas...

    Table cell background image.

    Use a separate cascading style sheet (css) look into them, you'll thank me later then put code in like this: td { background-image: url(image.gif); }

    Please check and criticize this

Sigh, I wish people wouldn't use Flash. Otherwise, your images are not anti-aliased and not high resolution enough for the size you have them on screen. I would also remove the intro page and have a simple html page stating that flash is required for the site, not one with a flash animation in...

Background song/Sample song plays at the same time in Front Page

Could it be that they're using different browsers to you and that the problem only shows up using certain browsers?

Website view on different Screen Resolution ???

Yup. I'm just doing web design part time at the moment, really want to work full time on it as I enjoy being my own boss but it's getting a constant supply of clients to allow me to survive off the income. I learnt ASP then PHP, they're quite similar, though to be honest I never use ASP...

I'd use a lot more paragraphs, make the links more readable, pad out the text so it isn't on the borders of your backgrounds, and use less colours/fonts to give consistency throughout the site

Website view on different Screen Resolution ???

Nope, didn't chop the image, created each part separately. Did the header then the links are a div positioned in the correct place on the image. The content uses a single strip that's a couple of pixels high by the required width and then repeated (if you look at the different pages you can see...

Website view on different Screen Resolution ???

Nope I never use z-indexing, it can be unreliable. It's just done through CSS, setting an image as the background for a div and then positioning the text within it. If you look at some CSS tutorials (I'm also posting an article about this on my site tomorrow) you'll see what I mean, it's...

    new site - please review

Good: Looks nice, good use of colours and looks professional Bad: page should be padded at the top as there is a lot of blank space at the bottom of the page. Also using Javascript when it isn't necessary - I know you've put the pics in a random order but an animtaed gif would do the job the...

    Browser compatibility issue PLEASE HELP

No worries. I'd always use Arial or Verdana fonts, everyones got them installed and they have a nice crisp look for text on a page

Website view on different Screen Resolution ???

If aligned to the left you'll just have space to the right of the content. If you want to center the page, put it inside a container div that is your maximum screen width wide (say it was 800px use 790px to ensure a horizontal scrollbar isn't displayed) and center the container. See my...

Website view on different Screen Resolution ???

This is just a personal preference but I wouldn't use %, I'd use specified pixel sizes, based on the resolution you're designing for, so if you want it visible on 800x600, don't make any divs, images etc wider than say 780px

    Browser compatibility issue PLEASE HELP

Just a tip but I wouldn't use Geneva for your headings, not everyone (inlcuding me) has it installed. For me it's opening the font in ms sans serif and there's no difference between IE and FF other than the text being a couple of pixels to the left and down. You really wouldn't notice it, it...

The cost of a web designer

I think it depends on your experience. I've been freelancing part time for close to a year now and now charge much more than I did originally. At first I was just charging oppitence to get some experience and try and get my name out there. Whilst that's still the case I have now built up a...
