I have had a couple of Joomla and Wordpress websites that I made get hacked recently. I was wondering a couple of things.

One, what security plugins, or extensions would the community recommend to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the future?

Two, Does who I host with have anything to do with the websites security, I mean do hosting providers such as hostgator, or godaddy, provide any additional services that protect there customer accounts? Is any one host better than another?

Thank goodness I back my sites up regularly so this has not really been that big of a disaster, but it is embarrassing and annoying to say the least.

    Thanks,

    Nick

I would contact your hosting provider about this - it sounds like an error on their end

Make sure your installs are up to date and back up all your DB's as frequently as possible. Every bit helps. I've been hacked before, not fun to say the least.

You always have to follow up on the WP and Joomla updates, including for the plugins and components. Unless the host is also managing the sites for you, they really can't be blamed.
