What is Going On??

When searching for my site on Google I have noticed some strange things going on. I have been finding pages on my site that have nothing to do with me. This is an example of what I mean:

My home page is www.fenlandtextilestudio.co.uk and one of these strange pages is http://www.fenlandtextilestudio.co.uk/ni-map-mark.htm

These appear to be previous versions of my home page with other random stuff added.

All of these pages have the prefix "ni-" in them and some of them (not the one above) my browser tells me are unsafe. I have searched through the uploaded files on my host and there are no file names that match the pages (eg no file name of ni-map-mark.htm).

Any ideas anyone??

I have resolved this now with the help of the host. It seems that someone had managed to upload files to my site - these have now been deleted.

Glad you figured it out. I was going to say that there is a possibility that your site has been hacked. It's not uncommon for sites to be hacked and spam added to the pages. I read somewhere that if you search a site and add the word viagra in the search you can find out pretty quickly if a site is hacked. That word is used the most apparently.

For instance a search in Google of your site: http://www.fenlandtextilestudio.co.uk/ + viagra brings up this in the search results:

great online drugstore india viagra generic! guaranteed quality! ... Fenland Textile Studio offers workshops in patchwork, quilting and mixed media ...
www.fenlandtextilestudio.co.uk/ni-animal-generic-medical-agreements.htm

You need a stronger password for sure.

To improve your wordpress security, make sure:

1. you harden your wordpress blog with basic .HTACCESS methods
2. take regular backups
3. monitor often
4. Use askimet plugin to avoid spam
5. Use less plugins as they open vulnerabilites.
6. keep your wordpress version upto date.

warm regards

I'm glad you've figured this out, As I would've said that it hadn't appeared when I visited your site. Hopefully,it won't happen again, hackers are really a pain in the neck!

It's a drag to have your website hacked. I had my hotmail password hacked and I ended up setting up a new account. I can't tell you how inconvenient that turned out to be. It's important to use a difficult-to-crack password and keep a copy of your password in a secure location that's not on your computer (trojans/keyloggers).
