i consider myself a rather experienced web designer but one thing i've never figured out how to do is to get that icon on the top of say a mozilla tab when you access a page, or when it is saved in a bookmark there is a custom icon made by the site next to it.

examples:

icons.jpg

if anyone can help me with this it'd be greatly appreciated thank you.

Glad I could help.

I always use the favicon.ico as kind of a little surprise for my design clients. they always get a little enjoyment of seeing their logo miniaturized and in the address bar.

If you made a favicon.ico, and placed it in your root directory, it should work. try refreshing the page, and saving new bookmark. If it still doesn't work, try cleaning out your cache.

If it is the URL that you have in your profile, it is working. I just tried it. You most likely need to either save a new bookmark, or clean your cache.

It could be me, but don't you have to place the code into the website. Like this:

<link href="CSS/favicon.ico" rel="shortcut icon">

I have never done anything like that with favicon. Just simply place it in your public_html folder, and you are done. I use them all the time.
