web design advice

I created a web page fo a friend from a scratch with PHP, HTML and CSS. I wanted to make something simple, but now I don't know is it too simple. What do you think, do you have any advice on the design ?

nonetheless, yes it is a bit simple and boring.

not much going on, not enough contrast, and way too much dead space on the top.
also the text is incredibly hard to read.

Ah shoulda tried to figure out why it was dead rather than just complaining.

Thanks for advices, I know that I'm not very good designer, but I'll try to do something to make it less boring.

I can not change text because the friend told me that he wants the text just the way it is.

I can send you some main measurements from which it has been internationally used to measure a website's look and feel, they are academic stuff that I've been studying at the british unviersity in egypt..
