Video choices for web/mobile?

Hello everybody,
I'm building a Joomla site that's going to be accessed by desktop and mobile users. There is a video page on it, but I'm not sure which format to use that is going to work across the most amount of desktops as well as mobile. Obviously, .flv is out because it won't run on iPhone or iPad. I understand mp4 is a great mobile format, but I can't seem to play it in Chrome or FF. I'd love to hear the opinions of the group. There are a few free video players out there that offer the ability to self host your videos that will play as HTML5 with a fallback of Flash. The most common of these players is JW player by Longtail. You can find it here. There are other options out there as well.

I would upload it to Youtube and then embed the code into the website. It works with iphones and it will help with seo.

I would upload it to all Video search engines sites or in tubemogol.
