Using RSS feeds

I'm preparing a quote for a downtown business organization and they would like to use RSS feeds. But I'm confused about how they worded it. Here's what they said:

"We envision using the RSS feed to not only send out the information from us when we update such as calendar, new businesses, etc; but being able to pull other RSS feeds to populate our website with updates from partner organizations."

I understand how RSS feeds work on sites like blogs and news sites. But do RSS feeds work with calendars?

Also, my first thought about using RSS feeds to populate their website is to not to. I asked them for more clarification but haven't heard back. What is the consensus about using RSS feeds to populate content on a website? Do you have to get permission from the source?

That would depend entirely on the source.

But do RSS feeds work with calendars?

RSS is RSS is RSS, it's just XML data in a predefined format.

That HAS to be one of the WORST attempts at hiding a spam link drop I've seen.

You should ask for your money back from spammer school.
