using gif's

Why is it that alot of website have split their table like picture into different gif's.

Wouldnt it be easier to load it all in as one picture and be done of split it in the middle and take a section to make it longer or shorter.

it depends on how big the whole image is... it's easier and faster to load several small gifs than one big one. It's also easier to arrange content around slices of images that are used to make a whole by being able to designate some slices as backgrounds with text on top of it and so on.
