Transparent gif image is "pixeled out"?

I made a transparent gif image and when I put it in Dreamweaver, the image had white space around the image. The image is text and its black, there is white space around the border of it.

I made the image in photoshop and illustrator and its the same in both.

Anyway to fix it?

In the "export for web & devices" dialog, setting the image's background matte to black should do the trick

Yeah in "Save for Web & Devices" choose black like adam said or NONE. Either would work in this case because the text is black. When saving other [more colorful] graphics oftern best practice to use none.

for the best quality you can use png,
the only thing you might want to know is the support issue for Internet explorer 6 but that can be fixed with javascript
