SSL Certification

Working on an eCommerce site and wondering if we need to purchase the cert.. We will be utilizing a paypal checkout system which is of course secure, and will be obvious once they are in their carts (no longer on our site) but do we need to have the main site also 'ssl certified'?

I know that technically we do not, but I am really just looking for opinions here. Thanks-

Technically, like you say you don't really, although if you want a seamless gateway in the future then yes you would. It might help conversions too.

On the basis that it isn't necessary and you're probably better off doing billable stuff instead then I wouldn't bother. Sometimes it's a pain in the butt getting an SSL cert set up depending on your hosting.
