Promoting competitive phrase

I had success with the promotion of phrases called "long tail". However, I had not had the same success with very competitive terms. For example, an expression with the title Google command (title: "example"), I scanned over 10,000 pages that contain the same title.
Do you think these can be promoted and whether a different strategy is needed?

Okay, this social media thing is a nice idea, And regardless of my question - I use it. But social media is a supplemental means for professional promotion. Of course in theory I'm a champion, but actually I'd like to receive more specific tips. Or am I not asking for help in the right forum...?

You have to focus first on the long-tail keyword then you can start with competitive keywords. Once you have successfully ranked on the long-tail keywords it will be easier for you to rank on the competitive keywords.
