I agree with Ian. It's a little plain. Especially with the two pics on the site. The pics are like, "WOW!", and then the rest of the site is.....plain.

More space. More white space.

could you please explain to me how you make that box underneath the "home, about, portfolio, etc." that you have the text and the puzzle image in?
I'm working on my first website for my business, and I'd like to have a centered box like that is underneath the top part of my site, but I have no idea where to start.

I'd like the box to start right under the stripe.

Try this

I didn't used css for layout, just for formatting.
What you can try is create another div and place a table there, give it the desired width, and then place your content into the table and wrap it with a center tag.
