Looks pretty good for a newbie. I don't like the colors much though. Code it up so we can see it with content and images, maybe the colors will look better with images.

I agree, the colors need to be addressed. I would not use the drop shadows as much. Also, don't forget about the background. Solid colors work but white is boring.

I agree with what's been said. Design, looks good. Colors, not so much. LOL. Most dark colors go well with gray, the green you chose is too close in value and just looks muddy. Try a hunter green if you like green. Personally, I think deep red and gray look great together. . . but that's just me.
You have a good start.
