I'm new to this. A beginner, yes!
I started off as someone who had to do it out of necessity.
I needed to design a website for a magazine I started publishing, and since I didn't have money, I figured I would put my basic knowledge of html/css that I had to learn in college to use. (It was a mandatory class, and at that time I really didn't think I would ever need to use it as I was studying to be an electrical engineer.)

Well, Lots of Google searches, and what not, I came up with my very first site design. It wasn't the greatest, but it worked.

Since then I have changed the layout a couple of times, and now I am thinking of making a few extra bucks by doing this.

Here's my personal site, and the site I did for my magazine.
Any advice/criticism would be highly appreciated!

1. forget all they taught you in college about "table based layouts"
2. use ul's for navigation
3. external css
4. remove the comments in the css. its just overkill.

I understand you're a beginner and my very first site was table based also, but that's bad. You have a long way to go before you can start asking a few extra bucks!
Spend loads of time practicing, following tutorials, youtube, enough resources on the web...
Also dig into user experience, for example, small white text on a dark background is unpleasant to read.
When you have the designing skills and are able to write proper, semantic html(5), CSS and also know your way around with using jquery, then you could ask some money.
Hope this doesn't scare you, I'm not a mean person :p
Don't stop learning! :)

I love Phreaddee #1 Forget about it lol. I see that all the time. Don't do what they taught you in College and it tends to be true.
