I'm kind of new at web designing and I'm wondering how I could decrease the loading time of the website I'm trying to build.

The only way it'll go any faster is if you decrease the file size of the image considerably, or remove it all together. A half a megabyte is just too much. You could however use the edges as background images around a regular cell, to give it a bit of the same feel. It would have to be cut down into two or more pieces though. It's up to you!
