Opening a page or an image in a new window

I have a site which I am generally happy with but feel that when images are opened from a thumbnail it is clumsey, i would if at all possible:

1. Prefer the image to open in a new window rather than having to use the back button.

2. Have the window open at a fixed size so the image fills the window rather than have large white areas surrounding it.

I have used frontpage as for me (a total beginner) I have found it easier to work with.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This can be done with good ole javascript.
There are a lot of free javascript sites, such as The JavascriptSource at Internet.com.
