Netbook/Mini for graphics and design ...

Hello everyone,

I read the posts on this subject and saw so
many opinions on what's best or what people prefer.

First I hear that Dell uses recycled parts in their systems
just wanted to see if that's true ..

OK now here we go lol : I am just starting graphics and web design
( finish school in 1 more week went 12 weeks). I learned Illustrator,
photoshop, Indesign, dreamweaver, and flash.

I am just looking for the cheapest laptop .. preferably a mini
so I can run Adobe CS5 on it. I see a lot with 64bit but there are
so many and I am wondering if the Aspire for $550 is the cheapest I
can get for what I need it for.

Since I am just starting I really don't want to spend more than
I need to. I will be making enough money within the next year
and I don't mind upgrading to a new one even if I do waste money
now... Knowing I can just spend the extra now and not have to spend
a lot later upgrading.

I really want to spend under $500 and I have a brand
new My Book external hard drive so I am not worried about
hard drive space. I am sure I will get that anyway but I don't care about it.

Any advice on this? I really want it now so I would like to go to
a place like Staples or PC Richards to pick it up.

I have been at Staples many times and I am going to PC Richards now
to check out those Aspire ones.

Thank you very much for any help,
John

Hi and welcome to the forum,

If you are going to be working with adobe products and using them to make money from your creations, then you're going to be spending a lot of time on your computer. This is not something that you want to skimp out on. I've seen so many people say "I just want the cheapest one that fulfills my needs," they wind up being very disappointed. You get what you pay for.

If your working with Flash, consider that you should have quite a bit of ram. Also consider screen real estate. When I have dreamweaver, flash, photoshop, and my ftp client all open at once, I can feel pretty restricted on my 24" iMac.

Just my prediction -- going as cheap as possible will not be very fun.

Aspire?

I guess I am just asking I want to go the cheapest I can
and still get what I need without getting more than I need.

I am running a 32bit 2.6ghz, 80 gig drive now and that was great
for the CS3 design suite. I did like those and that is what I learned
in school .. .CS3

I don't mind getting another 32bit laptop running CS3. That's
all I really need for now anyway.

I didn't get to look in PC Richards today at the Aspire, but I will go Monday.

I have the CS3 trial CD but I can't get it to run trial again just for another
30days until I get new Computer, even after erasing files from Registry.

I will be on hear all night trying to figure something out for now.

Thank you

My teacher basically said the same thing you did.
"Spend the money now" lol

I would just like to use most of this $1,000.00 I am getting for rent but
maybe I can just buy the laptop and live in a box for now lol

Just kidding thanks again

One more thing .. .

Dreamweaver and PhotoShop will be only 2 running and Flash
alone at other times.

Then just Dreamweaver alone to upload to server.

I figure that's how I will do it anyway.

Thanks
John
