How Do You Keep Visual Consistency When Multiple Artists Work on a Game?

As a project grows, it's common to have several artists working on characters, environments, UI, and props. What workflows or documentation have helped your team maintain a consistent visual style across the entire game, especially when working with external artists?

I know this thread is a bit old, but I figured I’d add my two cents. For consistency across different artists, I’ve found that a shared color palette and a “cheat sheet” of key shapes or silhouettes for each character type really helps. Also, setting up a common PSD template with locked layers for lighting and shading forces everyone to match. Do you folks rely more on written guidelines or visual examples to keep things unified?

I keep a shared online style guide with mandatory color palettes, font specs, and prop blueprints. For external hires, I add a document with painted examples of what fits and what doesn’t. I also use a private asset library so everyone pulls from the same approved sprites and textures. To check work quickly, I create side-by-side comparison templates. For scaling teams fast with consistent results, I’ve relied on the art outsourcing studio linked at allcorrectgames.com, which handles benchmarks and onboarding for me.
