How Do You Judge the Quality of Push Notification Traffic?

Hello everyone.

I’m considering using push notifications as a traffic source for affiliate campaigns, but I’m unsure how to judge whether the traffic is actually high quality. Beyond clicks and impressions, which metrics should I pay the most attention to?

Is conversion rate enough, or should I also monitor bounce rate, engagement, CPA, and return on ad spend? I’d also like to know how much traffic should be purchased during the initial testing phase before deciding whether a source is worth scaling.

For those with experience buying push traffic, what warning signs usually indicate that a network or campaign isn’t delivering quality visitors?

A good way to judge push notification traffic is to look beyond CTR and total clicks. I’d prioritize conversion rate, CPA, EPC, and ROAS, while also checking bounce rate and on-site engagement to see whether visitors are genuinely interacting with the offer. For comparison, the same principles apply when evaluating platforms like OneSignal, Braze, Airship for notification-related campaigns and audience engagement.

For testing, start with a controlled budget that can generate enough conversions to identify patterns rather than buying a huge volume immediately.

Warning signs include lots of clicks with almost no conversions, unusually short sessions, high bounce rates, inconsistent traffic quality, sudden unexplained spikes, and poor performance across multiple landing pages. If several segments consistently underperform, I’d pause them before scaling.
