host directory?

can you please tell me what the host directory is,im just starting to get to grips with dreamweaver8 and i havent a clue what this and what to put, please advise so i can move forward.

I don't use Dreamweaver so the verbiage may be different, but...
Assuming that this is in reference to ftp settings, I believe the Host Directory refers to a specific directory on the host server that you will upload your website files to, ex:

Host name: your.domain
userid: youruserid
password: yourpassword
Host Directory: /html (or whatever your website host indicates)


Some hosts require this to be set manually, others set it automagically.
The appropriate data for your host should be included in the welcome email you hopefully received from your domain/website host when you ordered hosting.

host directory in DW refers to the name of the root folder of your site. It many cases it is public_html, httpdocs, or simple / will usually work fine.

'host' refers to the directory that should contain all the files that make up your website. Within the context of that message, you will need to know if it is creating the directory for you or if there is already a pre-specified directory that it is refferring to.
