Homemade website needs advice

Hi there,

I've recently built a website using notepad (html & CSS) for my mother's bed and breakfast business. I would really appreciate some feedback on how it looks, and also maybe a recommendation for some affordable software I could use to make it look more shiny and professional.

Thanks a lot!

text is too small (i was thinking that anyway, but had just been reading this http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2011/10/07/16-pixels-body-copy-anything-less-costly-mistake/ )

centre the site - it looks a bit weird stuck over the on the left hand side
make your pictures horizontal - they tilt/slope like the door in both homepage pictures :)

more padding on the text and the dividing lines are a bit harsh!

try georgia as a font - if you dont want to visit font squirrel or similar

use the clone tool to get rid of the glimpse of chandalier in the green room picture

i would consider using the white suite's picture as the main image rather than the building from the outside: it looks a lot nicer and when you're looking for a b&b you want to see the rooms - see that room and you're going to read more/check the prices

increase the line height to around 120%

it has the basis of a good site but needs a bit of a tidy and some polish ;)

Completely agreed with font-embedding google web fonts makes it incredibly easy, but if you are interested in getting your hands a little dirty, one can easily generate the necessary files and host them yourself.

dafont.com is another superb resource- just be certain to check usage restrictions and licensing for any fonts you use.
