div id / dic class

hi im new about this and maybe its a stupid question but i would like to know whats the difference between div id and div class , and sorry for my words but i dont speak english and i have to use a traslator

An ID can only be used once in a document, but a class can be used many times.

Rules applied with an ID take precedence over class rules.

And neither apply to divs only.
