Converting portrait to landscape

Hey all,

I have a number of pics that are portrait and my image placeholder is landscape. Is there a way to convert these photos in photoshop without losing too much quality? Right now they are stretched in the placeholder and I feel it's unacceptable.

Thanks!

If you have access to photoshop or other image editing software you can probably do the following.

1. Create a canvas of the size you need.
2. Reduce or rotate your original image to fit the canvas size.
3. Then just blend the unused canvas space with a gradient that matches your original image.

Photoshop will definitely be your best bet. But as far as the right solution, I think it really depends on image content. Rotating might not work.

In Photoshop CS5, they added a new feature called "Content Aware Scaling". This feature is awesome! In the Ps CS5 demo, Adobe showed a square image being stretched to fit a landscape layout (postcard). Everything stayed in proportion, simply amazing.

Definitely work a try.
