Color suggestions for a friendly web site

I was looking to get advice on color schemes. I have researched the web some. I have some ideas for color schemes. I wanted some opinions from any of you as to what would be good color schemes for a web site that would be viewed by a community. The site would need to prepare a warm, friendly envrionment. I read up that orange is a good color. I am not sure that I would want to make a whole background orange as this may seem a little cheesy, no pun intended.

What would you suggest I try?

I prefer light background colors, like whites and greys.
A good site for checking out color schemes and getting ideas is colorlovers.com

I personally like dark backgrounds, they look more pro and it will make your customer feel that you have a great power and position in what you are doing

check the homepage of that website and tell me what you think web design company

Orange is such a bright color that's not too pleasing for the eye. Personally, I wouldn't use it as background color. But there's a way to make contrasting background and text colors. Make it lighter.

Hey there,

The darker theme does seem a little easier on the eyes. The light blue looks good on the black. However for some reason a white background always seems more professional. If your site is geared more toward the pencial pushers, I'd go with the white background.
Either way, be sure to use contrasting colors for text and background.

Here's a link to help you pick some complimentary colors to go along with whatever background color you go with.

I hope that helps a little

Light or dark, it's not the background that will make your site "professional", it is the layout/organization of content. Is it user-friendly? does it have a logical flow? are titles, links, etc easily identified? That sort of thing.

My two cents:
If you are going to use a color like orange (vivid) for the background, I would recommend desaturating and/or lighting it.

Or you can stick with the vivid color, but just use it more sparingly, like say on titles or links, or as a subtle design element.
