Clear Navigation in websites using dreamweaver templates

I am creating a css based website using a dreamweaver template. I want the category of the website to be highlighted in the navigation menu when the person is in that category. How do I do this without changing the navigation menu to an editable region?

javascript. thats about it. you could also use the "active" tag on the page, but that is per page.
