Choppy scrolling caused by background-image in FF

I have a website that uses fixed content proportions in the middle and an expandable background image to cover all the rest.

To my big surprice everything works great in IE7/8 and Safari but not in FF (I knew this dark day will come). The moment I use a background image there is a bug in FF that makes the mouse scrolling go very unsmooth and choppy.

The only solutions I can find are local fixes e.g.:

Does anybody have a solution that ensures everybody has a good mouse experience without changing anything locally?

P.s. Don't use background-image is not the solution I'm looking for :)

Usually FF isn't the awkward one in the bunch, that title is reserved for IE. Your post is a little confusing as you say "don't use/mentioned bg-image" but then you have it listed in the post title?

Can you post a link so we can see the choppy mouse behaviour for ourself?

Sorry PixelPusher,

Maybe the joke wasn't clear. I do have a scrolling problem because of the background-image but I would like to keep that image rather then simply removing it hence "Don't use background-image" is the solution I try to avoid.
