Choosing the Right Proxy for Reliable Web Scraping

Hello everyone.

I'm planning a web scraping project that requires stable connections and consistent access to publicly available websites. There are so many proxy options available, including rotating residential, static ISP, datacenter, and mobile proxies, that it's difficult to know which one is the most practical for long-term use.

I'm especially interested in hearing about real-world experiences rather than marketing claims. Which proxy type has given you the best results for avoiding temporary blocks while maintaining good performance?

How do you balance cost, speed, and reliability, and what common mistakes should beginners avoid when selecting a proxy service?

For long-term stable scraping, static ISP proxies are the most practical. Consistent IP, residential appearance, datacenter speed.

Rotating residential if you need scale and don't mind higher cost. Datacenter for unprotected sites on a tight budget. Mobile only for heavily protected targets like social media.

Keep this in mind: Brightdata and Oxylabs are the most reliable but expensive. Smartproxy is a solid middle ground. Webshare for cheap datacenter.

Common beginner mistakes: buying residential proxies for sites datacenter handles fine, not rotating user agents alongside IPs, sending requests too fast, and choosing a provider on price alone without checking IP pool quality.

Start small, test block rates on your actual target, then scale from there.
