    Help with CSS code.

It seems to be something to do with the comments you have entered remove the : <!-- ------- Navigation -------- --> and <!-- ------- Main content -------- --> from your code and it works OK. From what I can figure out (and it seems to be a FF issue), the browser is not...

    Dreamweaver and CMS

I have to disagree with Geodun1 and say no way you should build your own CMS, there is no way it'll be cost effective for you to code functionality that is available in existing products. I use Joomla and it's pretty easy to customise things to fit. You can have a .php file (either one that...

    scaling image within DIV

That's how I do my testing. I do cross check on an old desktop at home to see if it's alright, but changing the res on my laptop is usually enough.

Please review my design for a self cert mortgage company

Good job, looks great. The only thing I would say is to me, the box with "What I customers say" looks unfinished, maybe you should see what it looks like with a "top" on it. HTH, JC

    scaling image within DIV

Try experimenting with using % for width and see if a combination of that and min-width will still constrain the width. If you have no luck with that, let us know and we can have another look. HTH, JC

    Why oh why?

First off I don't know if those stats are indicative of a general website. W3Schools is a technical website and it's sort of accepted that techos tend to use FF where as Joe Bloggs tends to use IE. If I look at one of my sites for the past month (aimed at the general public) the spread I get...

Using PHP to change CSS Stylesheets depending on Browser

Can you provide some more info: a) What does your include looks like b) An example of a file calling it I think you should try and resolve your issues without a separate .css for each browser. I think further down the line you'll regret having to maintain multiply .css. If you post and...

    CSS Navigation Menu IE Issue

Just to throw my two cents in, I agree with the other guys, don't worry about IE5, I reckon a good rule of thumb would be to just support one major release backwards on any browser. HTH, JC

    Stylesheet linked in body

It's a strange one alright. I initially thought it was a margin issue, but you have the margins set to 0 so it's not that. The only thing I can think that would work (it's a bit of a hack) is in the #title set: position:relative; top:-21px; It will get it looking right until you can...

    small CSS float hiccup

Sounds like you need to do two things. 1) Set the margins on your divs to 0, otherwise they will wrap even though they are not touching 2) set you min-width wider until it stops before they wrap. If these don't work then email a URL and we will check it out. HTH, JC

    Lightbox Question

Yes you can have a background image. The main difference is that there is no src property and you can't target a link to a div. HTH, JC

    small CSS float hiccup

What do you want them to do ? If you want to stop the container "shrinking" below a certain width then use the min-width in your css. HTH, JC

    window, Linux or Mac?

I agree about gimp, every now and again I try and use it but I always end up getting frustrated with it, when you said you didn't use windows I was hoping that you had found something other than gimp for linux...

help creating some nice drop down menus in css

Don't automatically assume this is a bug in your stuff. Go back to the page where you got the code for your menu and test it, it is possible that the original script is a bit buggy. If the original script is OK then first thing I would do is put the original CSS file for the menu in place of...

    Topic/Comment System (PHP Help)

If you are planning on doing it that way then a search on "php comments for a static page" should return plenty of hits. A quick look for me turned up this one: http://www.gentlesource.com/comment-script/ I do think that this sounds like a really good fit for a CMS but I won't keep...

    Topic/Comment System (PHP Help)

Web design and Web coding are two completely separate things to me. Using a CMS to demonstrate you Design Skills is totally legit as far as I'm concerned. A CMS just deals with the nuts and bolts stuff for you, the layout, structure and design are still up to you. If you where showcasing...

    mysql db design question

I am not sure you have the right end of the stick with drop downs that are just a list. To do these I would have one table that holds the data for multiply drop downs. Something like Table Name: DD_DropDowns 1 DropDownType 2 Key 3 Description Then when you do a drop down for say...
