Premium Themes

I've been playing around with a few premium WordPress themes over the last couple of years. Potentially they look like a quick way to get a snazzy looking site (albeit with the usual sliders and icons).

Behind the scenes, however, things don't always look so pretty to us developers. For some web site owners, though, these themes still represent a massive improvement over what they have and at an affordable price.

The business pragmatist in me likes them, the developer doesn't.

I've written up my thoughts and here's the article..

Premium Themes are a good option for companies that cannot afford a custom themes from an agency. They are a good option as not everything should be about money.

Except when you're trying to make money by providing a service. It should totally be about money.

I understand that you provide a service for which you get paid, that is obvious. What I am on about is providing the client something within their budget, so you take a little less than you usually charge, but you gain a client that is happy.

Heh.. Ive done some work customizing themes.. would have been cheaper to just have me do it ground up then searching thru code bloat.

No. I think your focus should be to create a service which is of value to people and then the maths and the money follows on from that. So I think it should be all about 'value' or 'worth'.
