Hey everyone,

I just wanted to put a question: What do you think of AJAX-based websites? Are you into those AJAX-fullfilled webs, or are you an AJAX-hater? (would want to see that :D)

What is, in general, your limitation of using AJAX? /reloading pages, switching between pages, forms managing, image display etc./

AJAX methods have become what Flash was or is. Overused and/or inappropriately used, I do use AJAX myself but limit its use to operations where I can provide a user with "instant" feedback, useful prompts or help, "on the fly" price calculation, etc. etc.

So you would not recommend to provide page switching using AJAX?

Only if it makes sense to do so maybe in such things as system control GUIs.

If your URLs need to be fully accessible and/or usable by all manner of user agent and devices definitely not.

As I said earlier it has many the same problems that flash does;

Impossible to "bookmark" unless the developer has taken enough care to allow a bookmarking to be used, many don't.

Search engines cannot access the URLs unless alternative routes are provided, and if you are going to do that, why bother with the extra complexity and work needed for AJAX.

Like framesets, iframes etc it has its place. But everywhere and for everything isn't it.

Ajax is a really good technology to be used in commercial websites. it reduces visitors extra click while helping for a good bounce rate in your website. But you need to have a good web server to handle Ajax request. Also these types of websites aren’t much Seo friendly.

For a web application it can improve the user experience, giving a more traditional desktop feel to it.

Website based AjAx is depend with purpose will be optimize. For special features, Ajax is not good performance to try. If you want to maximize your website performance, you can try another web application.

One of the main advantage of Advantages of Ajax is it reduces bounce rate to the website.

No it doesn't!!!

It just means that the "bounces" are not being recorded. AND "bounce rate" is a URL based metric NOT an overall site metric.

One thing that bugs the hell out of me with "AJAX" forms, is that "auto complete" in browsers simply doesn't work.

AJAX hosting has made websites interact with users in a faster way. It is possible to connect and communicate with the server while the user is typing on his keyboard to enter certain details.

AJAX technology is being used in a commercial web site is really good. Click to add a good bounce rate on your website visitors hoping to reduce the Good but you can handle Ajax requests, you need a Web server. In addition, these types of websites from friendly does not.
