Feedback on Message

Hi there

The domain name for my current site (yoyocms.co.nz) is based on the following:

You're On Your Own

The intent behind it is that I like building CMS driven websites that enable end users to manage.

The question I have is that in pushing the YOYO message, do you think it comes across negatively?

The reason for asking is that I am looking to redesign the site and utilise a more text driven theme with responsive design, etc.

I want to create a slightly less formal feel as that is more my style but at the same time wondered if the acronym creates the wrong connotation.

Would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks, Nigel

It's a negative statement on it's own. But I'm sure if you present it in a positive way people will accept it as positive.

Your basically telling the customer that I'm a build your site, that you will be able to manage it on your own. You site just needs to portray that it is really easy to manage a web site on their own. <---(This is what I'm assuming you mean by YoYo)...

Even though the saying is "Your On your Own", it's just a catchy, exaggerated way of saying "You can do this, it is easy!"... Obviously you need to let the clients know if they run into problems they can come to you for support. If you can do these things, I think it can work.

And of course YoYo CMS brings a mental image of something that is continually up and down.

And sounds awfully similar to the recently crazed 'YOLO' - which I should probably warn, I would take pleasure in poking anyone who says such in the eyes. ;)

Well I had to "Google it", but I'm right behind in eye poking queue!

It's probably for the best you had to - I had the pleasure of learning it's true definition from the not to intelligent ones on Facebook - needless to say I no longer have them as a friend. :p

Back on topic, however; @original post - I think your name comes across both negatively and positively. It does give the impression that there is no hope for those with little experience - however, if you were to devise some cheesy slogan or something to re-assure the users saying something like "You're on your own - until now!". I'm not entirely sure but contradicting your name would definitely soften the negativity!

yeah, i would agree. i am still not quite sure as to how his site is supposed to go, but he can still give it a positive spin. say, the You're On Your Own message can emphasize the degree of freedom that users can have when in the site (that is if it is one of the thrusts that he want to follow).

I have to agree with everyone else on this one. You’re On Your Own does sound horribly negative and just hearing it brought back unhappy memories of my mother when disappointed in me throwing her arms in the air going “Well then, guess you’re on your own”.

It brings mixed feelings for me. Freedom and abandonment. "Yay, I can do what I want! Wait... what if I need help?"

I've got different point of view in this but as I read everyone's reply it seems like they had a point. Look for something more optimistic! How about,'Do it,Yes you Can!?

This gives me a big LOL or should I say ROFL?!? Haha, I think in this modern world giving an acronym isn't unusual at all.
