Web Design Forum Going Mobile?

What are the chances these forums are going to go mobile anytime soon? It is a pain to work try to look at posts on my iPhone and I feel like, especially for a forum like this, a mobile stylesheet would be pretty simple. I don't know who the owners are but with the community we have I'm sure we could work together on getting the site mobile or something? Any thoughts?

I doubt it. but you never know. the whole site could realistically do with a redesign, but...

have you got some ideas on it matthew?

It would be a fair bit of work - I just spent two days doing a mobile version of a relatively simple site so a forum like this would be a good bit of graft if you wanted it to look ok.

Best bet would be import all the data into a new bulletin board that is ready for mobile. Is there such a thing?

nobile is definitely on the agenda
vbulletin 4 was/is rubbish in my opinion. It does have some nice features, but I am sure a lot of people would prefer version 3 over 4.
There is talk of vbulletin version 5 coming out in the not too distant future, depending on how that is, this forum will more than likely just skip to version 5 and bypass version 4 completely. I will look at a professional redesign if I decide to upgrade to vb5.
I really dont like the way vbulletin is headed since they sold out to some venture capital firm. I wouldnt even rule out a switch to invision or xenforo, I am just waiting to see how vbulletin 5 thing turns out.
I think I would prefer forumrunner over tapatalk, not sure if I will use mobile optimised pages or a mobile app. Either way I cant afford to completely ignore mobile.

Got it - dead easy - just do this:

* {
display: block;
max-width: 480px;
float: none;
position: relative;
}

:) :)

Can't believe I never checked back on this thread. I always forget the general chat thread :/

The only idea I had was the tapatalk app because I use that for my tennis forum and it's great. Other than that even something as simple as some media queries to target mobiles would be a great improvement. Possibly hide parts of the table the shows all the threads to make only the important info show... Up the font size, just give it a cleaner feel overall.

Unfortunately I don't know much at all about vbulletin or any other forum software. I've never had cause to use them yet on any of the pages I've worked on. Like I said in the last post I think some small changes, even as a short term "fix" would be wonderful.

vbulletin 5 promises better mobile optimization

but I cant help but feel they are trying to just mimic something else,
vbulletin 4 looked like they were trying to mimic invision, and the screenshots from vbulletin 5, together with the recent activity stream feature on the latest version of vbulletin 4 makes me think they are trying to make it more like a social network.

No ideas of their own ;) at least mimicking a social network makes a little bit of sense.

vBulletin has definitely suffered somewhat after JelSoft were "aquired" by Internet Brands and I would have thought that getting vB4 into a truly usable state would be a priority over developing another version to try and drive licence sales.

The vb4 forum I mod at, is far too often in a less than responsive state since the "upgrade" to version 4.
