Critique my logo please

Coffee Freak

It's been a WHILE since I've done any real creative work, but I'm trying to sharpen my skills so I can freelance a little. I really need to get Illustrator for doing logos - I made this one in Fireworks.

Any suggestions?

In case you are wondering where the coffee theme came from, everyone that I used to work with noted my caffiene addiction with the term of endearment, "coffee freak" - so it kinda stuck. I debated using my last name, Abbott, since it puts me first in the phone book, but nobody uses them anymore!

i agree with white.. .there's just too much "styles' in your typography.. .work on it to be simple.. .don't overdo it.. .but good work.. . :-D

The image at the center is good enough. But you may want to opt for a much simpler typography. Most of the time, simplicity works best especially in logo design.

Right you are. There's a lot going on with the typography. Simplicity is still the best. Always remember that.

the acid test with a logo is as follows.
make it black and white
reduce it to 150px x 150px
does it work?
no. unfortunately.

I really like the coffee cup in the middle but I think you could do without the coffee shape for the background. I don't like the font for the creative designs tagline. I would go with something less handwriting looking.

That coffee cup within a coffe cup thing is really quite clever, and even if not many people will catch it, it's still a real head-turner. I will have to say, though, that the typography needs work, and that you took the brown color way too far. Simpler fonts and a better contrast (to help colorblind and partially color blind people read the text) are my suggestions.

the design is created really well, the image is eye catching and the text "coffee freak" catches my eye first, perhaps make the text less standing out so the coffee is more noticeable and maybe remove the glow around "Creative designs" other than that i really like it! :)

Print or web - the simpler the design, the better. Have you thought about dropping the exterior areas and going with the branding on the coffee cup itself? It's such a nice pleasant looking cup.

Make the text stand out a bit more. It's going to be a bit tough for color blind people to read, otherwise. I like the redundancy of the coffee mug within the coffee mug. This logo is very good.
