What should I make a text logo in

Hello,

I'm trying to create a web logo. I may print this later, but it's sole purpose is for a web based company.

I pretty much just want it to have a color background and text, but i might add different height to some of the text. Can I expand the text or scale it larger without loosing resolution?
I tried to make one in photoshop with resolution at 72 and it looked fine, but after I save for web at high quality it still looks blurry.
Should I be making this in Illustrator or change settings in photoshop? I've tried changing a few things, but nothing seemed to work. Do I need to rasterize the type?

thank you :)

yes do it in illustrator. you can then resize as you wish.
make the coloured background part of the div that contains the logo, rather than the logo. save from illustrator as an eps. open and resize this in photoshop. save for web as a transparent png.

as for it becoming blurry when you leave photoshop, do two things to assure this doesn't happen:

1) in photoshop, make sure you're viewing at 72px/in and at 100%resolution. you can change the resolution in the lower left hand corner, or if you double-click the magnifying-glass icon in the left toolbar it goes straight to 100% (i think it's the magnifying glass, might be the hand)

2) if that doesn't work, save as a .png instead of .jpg, for some reason i made an avatar to some forum recently and when i saved it as a jpg it blurred out, but when i used a .png for the same exact image, it was crisp and clear.

Illustrator = Vector (precise Pixel Calculation)

Photoshop = Rastured image.

Use Illustrator.

Here is a simple test to show you the difference. In both Programs make a red circle and then add a 2px black stroke and then zoom in and tell me which one is better.

Thank you every one SO much. I've been playing with Illustrator now to get more comfortable with it. I also have an image that was already made and is a jpg that I need to add text too. I'm guessing this would also be better in illustrator. The image itself is 400 width but needs to go down to 120x120 with clear text. So i'm going to try that in illustrator.

do this in photoshop and use the unsharp mask on it afterwards (check f1 help files on how to use unsharp mask) but careful you don't overdo it

Seriously? You're a designer and you don't know the answer to this question? Sigh..such is the industry I guess. Anyways create your pre-treatment file in adobe illustrator, then commit your file to photoshop for effects and treatment. Spluh.
