What in the hell does genocide have to do with Steve Jobs death? I meant the technology world, Amelia Bedelia. :p

Well you're the one who said it was a huge hit to the world, not me :D . I just had to clarify that among hits to the world, it isn't comparatively huge as others ;) .

Ok, ok, you've got me. Obviously the world took a bigger hit when "The Jersey Shore" was renewed for another season... :D

Steve offered more to your world than you might realise. To assume that its just apple shows short sightedness. Lets go back a bit shall we...
1. Shift towards personal computing over mainframes (apple II)
2. Gui - so folk could actually use computers WITHOUT knowing programming.
3. Mouse. I know people will say he stole it from epson but the first pc with mouse was an apple.
4. Tim berners-lee wrote the www on a nextcube. Steves own creation, after he left apple.
5. Bought a small animation company, upgraded their systems again to neXT which then makes the first all cg animation.
6. Goes back to apple, saves company AND kicks gates up the arse.
Provides a viable alternative to windows in osx.
Provides a viable alternative to ie with safari.
Realises it is far superior and ie for mac is ditched.
7. Ipod, iphone, ipad, imac - the only thing it seems you young ignoramus' know he was involved in!

His reach was far more than apple, or font choices...

Woa, why the anger and hostility? The world is not dependent on one person no matter how many good business choices he or she made. And if you read closely I never said he was limited to font choices, I just thought I would share the nice article for everyone. Unless you think he doesn't deserve any credit in that? Anyway how young and how much of an ignoramus do you think I am?

Cranky cause I was on my 3rd bus of the morning.
Hostile because ive had many rant on at me re:conditions @ foxconn. And most of those folk did not seem to have any concept of anything else besides appearing "cool" and moralistic. Apologies for lumping u in with that lot...

It's true, many of us, including myself, often forget some of his original ideas and accomplishments BEFORE he returned to Apple. I was unaware of point #4, that's pretty cool.

re:conditions @ foxconn.

Steve Jobs' legacy shouldn't be tarnished by what occurred with this suicide business. First of all, Foxconn is an independent contractor employed by Apple to assemble an Apple product. Technically, Apple isn't liable for any incident that occurs in a Foxconn facility, but from a PR standpoint, they're obviously going to take some heat. Does Apple have a responsibility to be aware of the conditions of the employees that handle their products? Yes, I think they do, and, from what I understand, both they and Foxconn have put in place measures that will hopefully remedy the situation and prevent further occurrences.

As the Chinese move forward in their growth and development, they should look at the labor standards set in place by the US and other developed nations and use them as a model for themselves. In the US, particularly during the industrial age, we had thousands of work related deaths. Factory conditions were reprehensible. Occupational health and safety was entirely unregulated. It took us decades to finally set in place reasonable standards for all workers in all work environments. Even now, it's still a work in progress.

All that said, RIP Steve Jobs. ;)

I wrote my own bit of a tribute at Computer Forum, if any of you care to read. :)

If you ask me, his greatest feat (Besides Pixar) was convincing a nation that their computers and devices were their friends. An excellent businessman.
