Breaking the banner: Other advertising models

I'm working on a project (more to develop my personal skills, than produce any sort of actual income) and I came across a site with a different kind of advertising model: https://www.wetransfer.com/

I like this approach a lot more than banner ads. Has anyone seen a model like this elsewhere, and how do you think one would go about getting advertisers on board?

That's a brilliant idea.. I have seen some other advertising methods that are a bit more annoying such as the advertising page with auto forward to your real destination and the flash takes over the whole page or at least the bordering sides.

The problem with this method for me is that it KILLS my netbook which can't handle flash very well.. not to mention that in order to scroll with arrow keys, you have to use the mouse to click and focus somewhere on the page - these border-side ads are right where I would normally click.. the reason I normally click there is because there's never any clickable content there in the first place!

Hmm very different. I actually enjoyed waiting to see what the next ad was going to be!

I detest those new ads popping up everywhere that occupy the whole screen for the first 5-10 seconds of the page session. Don't they realise we're all just going to tune out and automatically ignore these blatent ads?

I wonder what other create ways you could utilise for advertising that's different from your regular banner-space model.
