Time spend on SEO for your own site?

How much time do you spend working on the SEO for you own company? We offer SEO, web design and development, and graphic design services and I was wonderting how much time others who offer these (or one of them) spend SEOing their own site and where they rank as a consequence?

It depends by site. I have about 5 big websites and it's really difficult to finish in 8 hours. The link-building process took very much.

I usually spend 5-8 hours a day optimizing my sites. That time span includes writing articles, submitting links to directories, etc, etc, etc. :)

I dont think that I ever spent less than 8 hours, maintaining several sites is not easy task.

When I first started, I easily spent 4-5 hours every week - most was research related. Now, that I've gotten first page and top three ranking for several terms I targeted, I probably spend about an hour a week looking for high quality link building opportunities.

I'm only optimizing for my local area so that may be why my time input is so small compared to others posting in the forum.

On the average, about 7-8 hours per day of SEO work. That's a lot of time, because I'm targeting competitive keywords. Good thing is, my linkbuilding effort seems effective.

I generally spend around 3-5 hours a day optimizing my websites. Not to long. I spend a lot of time creating content.

I spend most of my time writing quality articles. Probably 10 hours a week on average for the past 3 months or so.

I like to post on forums and that is pretty much the extent of my link building. I just like to relax at the end of the day and spend 30 minutes reading and replying to forums. Learn lots of stuff doing that so for me, it's not really intended as link building. Once I am happy with my articles I think I will do some more focused link building and see what happens :) Not sure if it's paying off yet :)

I usually spend 5 hours a day building backlinks but I'm still pretty new at this so I couldn't build that much backlinks and that only for one site. I hope I can master this someday and build one to two hundreds links per day. That would really help my directory.

SEO is continues process for me, so i normally work about hour per day, and it good enough for me

Normally, you should plan to devote between 1 -2 hours each day in SEO work for your site. It would be hard to devote 8 -10 hours to your own site and still get your work done. 1 -2 hours should be enough for your own site.

An hour a week is very light, but good for you if it works. I am just starting up 6 more sites so once I finish coding them I will begin the dreaded SEO process, all while I maintain my other 3 site's content and SEO! I do love punishment...

I guess it's like excercise, sometimes you don't want to do it but you have to to be healthy! I think you just have to do what you can and try to enjoy it.... Ive heard that too much link building is bad anyway...

SEO is a waste of ****ing time!
1. websites are read by people not robots.
2. too much keyword filling and your content turns to shit.
3. good marketing and promotion far outweighs SEO advantages.

every site I do gets the bare minimum amount of SEO required to get it up to speed. I write relevant content and promote the shit out of the site. 20000+ hits a day means nothing when they dont equate to sales. a good database and excellent marketing strategies can turn even a half of that amount of traffic into several times more sales.

to all those spending 8-10 hrs a day on SEO, you are ****ing dickheads, where do you find time to actually code websites. my particular favourite was the poster who said oh yeah 3-5 hours a day, then had a link below stating "learn HTML in an Hour!!!" what a ****ing tool.
