looking for the best 3d graphics program for me

I'm a web designer looking to expand his repertoire. I'm interested in learning a powerful 3d rendering program. I currently use several adobe products and am ready to take on a new program.

I just installed Blender. should I go on and learn tons of skills in this program or is there a better program out there?

(I don't want to spend months and months on a program only to find that it is obsolete, incompatible, or unpopular among graphic gurus)

I looked at Anim8er and it looks a little too basic. I want to be capable of making advanced graphics.

 somebody plz point me in the right direction. Any suggestions or info would be appreciated. thx.

well....... I guess nobody cares to answer....but anyway if anyone happens to care I did use blender quite a bit this week. I did some basic animations its actually quite a bit of fun.

I plan to further educate myself in blender and skim the surface some more and then try out another program or two.

I guess the best way to find the best program for me is to experience some of them for myself.

Well I would like to at least try out maya's trial. I currently chossing what major I want to study in college and may go for computer graphics or web design or something............not sure yet. I dont want to pour tons of my time into a program that isnt respected as proffesional or a program that is not widely used in the field.

I'm willing to spend money on maya or any other program if it pays for itself in the long run. Ill check out 3ds for sure though.

Thanks for the wiki link I'll read it tonight.

That wiki page is just a list... a list of video games created with this application. If you want more info about 3ds max, here is the link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3ds_Max

I tried it too, and saw the unlimited possibilities you have with it. And after seeing the wiki article with the list of videogames created with it, it was simply amazing.

Same as you, i'm now thinking which 'domain' in computing to go to, it's pretty hard. I tried modeling and animating in 3d applications, but i'm not too good at that and don't really like it. I think i'll go with video design or programming... or both :D.

I would suggest that you go deep into 3ds Max, V-Ray and Photoshop if you want to develop nice and photo-realistic renderings. Just check my Architectural Portolio and you will see what I am talking about:
