Submitting to search engines is really a waste of time. The key is getting your name out on the internet as much as possible. Pay-per-clicks also are a waste of money. Once again, do everything you can to get your name out as much as possible. Check out my web site. I use one of my clients as proof of what really works. There is so much you can do and it's all free.

Search Engines Submittal

I have had a web site hosted on network solutions for 2 years. Every month they submit me to all of the top search engines and It sometimes shows up number one and somtimes not.

I have a web site promotion client that dominates the front pages of all search engines and I've never submitted her to any of them. I have never paid one cent either. See for yourself, so a search on "Sandy Forrest-Hartman" and you will see that she is all over the search listings.

most major search engines prefer manual submission. mass submission is a waste of money in most cases and not recommended.

any web site owner will find that good search engine listings take a lot of work and it's a constant struggle to stay on top. it's a necessarily a matter of how much money you spend or not. it's a matter of good keyword specific SEO and good quality inbound links.

but then again, i am not SEO expert.

Hi Zkiller, You are right, staying on the search engines does take alot of work. I am an SEO expert. Please do the search I recommended and you will see that. The thing I stress to people the most is that you don't have to spend any money at all to dominate the listings.

i don't doubt that she is, but then again, i doubt that her name is a highly sought keyword. ;)

my point being is that submitting your web site to major search engine and directories is not a waste of time. while it is possible to get your site indexed without ever submitting it, your odds greatly improve when you submit your site.

on the internet the saying "build it and they will come" does not apply. your site virtually doesn't exist unless people know about it.

their was something else i wanted to write, but i lost my train of thought.

ha ha, I hope you can remember. Actually, her name is searched on alot. She has her work in many shops that don't want people to go to her web site and buy from her. But they do post her name with her work. They don't know her web site can be found by searching her name.

That pretty much says it all, "Sandy Forrest-Hartman" is not exactly a highly sought after keyword.
Having said that, building high quality content that is linked to naturally can get you ranked highly in search engines, on a low budget.
Likewise spending tonnes of money on directory submissisions etc can get you nowhere, if you dont have high quality content.
The google algorithm gets more and more intelligent.

I reckon that pay per click is a load of crap for a lot of people...I payed $0.75 for a click on Google for "Photoshop" - I was the n00b that clicked it. I get a LOT of referrals monthly just by paying $2 a month for some site to post my 88x31 button. :)

Soon to be stopped. If my site is worth visiting, and is going to make a profit, it will do so. Hear'say. Yush.

A lot of people do very well from google adwords. I would not be so quick to dismiss it just because in one instance it did not work for you.

I agree with zkiller and ian - I don't see many people searching for "Sandy Forrest-Hartman" Can't be many competitors with that keyword! Google Adwords is a very good way to gain rankings in search engines. With Adwords people are viewing your site, search engines see you are getting more hits & your website is getting more busy therefore pushing you up through the algorithm.
