Where to start with Flash?

I designed my website using Frontpage:

I am redesigning my website, and I LOVE this:
http://simplicityphotography.com/index2.php?v=v1

I love the photo galleries, the arrows to scroll text, the drop down menus...It just seems so seamless and clean.

So, I now have Dreamweaver 5.5, and I just don't know how to get to that point.

This is what I have so far:

My transparent scrollbar code has made the text blurry.
The slideshow on the home page was made in Photoshop/Image Ready, and was a PITA! If I ever want to update that gallery, I will have to start completely over :(

Any advice is welcome :)

The best place to start with flash is in the garbage. Search for "jQuery photo gallery" on Google. That'll set you down the right path.

I've heard from others to stay away from flash as well...Why is that? Are there any other options to achieve some of the same features? I'll check out the jQuery...thanks :)

Flash is clunky, large, hard for search engines to index, and generally frowned upon in web design communities because of it. Not to mention, a lot of your users won't even be able to see it. There are an increasing number of iOS users on the market who can't install it, and an equally increasing number of people who refuse to install it where they are able. And, with jQuery, unless you're making games, you don't need it. Shoot, with HTML5's canvas element gaining more support, you won't need Flash for games for long either.
