Website Load Testing

Can anyone recommend a good website load testing software or service. We need to test a couple of sites for 500+ users. I don't mind paying for a good software or service, I just don't want to pay for inaccurate results.

Are you looking for page load times, proper page loading, or are you referring to server user load testing? Are you worried about users that are on dial-up connections, script execution times, cross-browser loading, or if the host can handle the user load?

We have a high traffic site that we have been having issues with. We just need a service that can load test for 500-1000 users hitting the site with 15-45mins.
