submenu trick, is it possible?

Hi there. Trying to come up with a structure for my photography website.

Basically I want to have an automatic slide show running next to main content.

However, i also want to have a submenu with links that instead of changing the whole page (including the slideshow), change only the content within maincontent div.

In other words, i want to be able to jump from one sub-category to another without disrupting the slideshow. Hope that makes sense.

So is it possible to do? and how?

Sounds like a jquery task. FYI, you need to give folks a chance on here, while you may get a response in less than an day, this is not guaranteed.
