Mobile device detection & redirect.

Firstly, I'm an idiot.

Not in general, mind you, but I know absolutely nothing about programming. I have designed and maintained our company's web site for many years. It's big in terms of pages, but simple, all HTML and CSS. I have recently created a mobile friendly version of the site with a manual option, but I'd like it to be automatic. I see prepackaged scripts at detectmobilebrowser.com, but have no idea what to do with them.

Can anyone help?

I think this is done with the .htaccess file..
something like

RewriteCond %{HTTP_user_agent} iPhone/
RewriteRule ^$ http://www.mobilesite.com [R=301,NC,L]

If anyone's interested I got it to work. I found out that our web hosting provider uses Apache, and took a chance pasting an Apache script I found online into the .htaccess file. Worked.
