Looking to go more professional

Hello all,

I am looking to make my forum look more professional. Can any of you who are designers give me any pointers to make my site look more professional? Here is the URL:

I am having trouble getting users to register and I can not figure out what is wrong with the look of my site. I know the content is there so the only other thing it could be is the desgin. Let me know what you think.

1. Get rid of all of those gradients, they make it look really old fashioned.
2. Fix your site glitches (see attachment)
3. Get a new logo/header that looks better
4. Forums are hard to start, I've started many, so I know this, but what really helps is to find some GOOD paid posting from various people. You can also try PostLoop.

you could always start with white and take it from there.
It's too dark, and too jarring and not at all inviting.
the layout like shovenose said has many "bugs" and odd things happening, this needs to be fixed...
