What is link bait and how does it work?

Link bait is basically content that you post on your site or blog that makes other bloggers and webmasters link to it. With all those links, you will definitely rise in the search engine rankings.

There are lots of different kinds of link bait. I can be just really good, informative content. Or it might be the mention of an an offer or competition. It could also be a really provocative post designed to cause controversy. Doesn't really matter what it is, as long as it motivates those who read it to link to you.

WikiP defines Link Bait or Link baiting as any content or feature within a website that somehow baits viewers to place links to it from other sites.

as sydneymatt said, it usually involves some degree of controversy, which encourages people to link to the article, people then accuse the person of simply making the post, for the purpose of other people linking to them, hence why it is called "link bait"

link baits can come in any form... we had a real estate value calculator before posted in our real estate site. we got a lot of links from that
