Hotmail

On my site I show an e-mail address (in two places) of [email protected]. The link appears to be working. BUT, when I send a test message, it doesn't make it for some reason. I've sent a half dozen using the link .. and nothing!

Is there the possibility that hotmail is blocking it, maybe thinking it's being redirected or soemthing?

All the other links work fine.

I looked it over, and did not see anything, other than the bottom one is capitalized.

it should not get blocked by hotmail, as it is not being sent from your site. Clicking on the email link only opens up the users default email client and sends it through their own email provider.

... could my ISP be the problem here? They're kind of good old country folks who mean well but....

It is possible, but not usually likely. I do not use Hotmail, does it have a spam filter? If so, check it. if your mail is not there, it sounds Lost in Space. LOL

When you click on that link on your site, it will bring up your default mail client. Have you tried to send an email from your mail client without going through your website? That would answer the question of whether or not it has something to do with the site or not.

I did send a few through my mail client and they went through with no problems. My manager told me last night that she sent me several through the site, but I never got them. She then sent me one using her regular mail client, and I got it.

As soon as my ISP gets back to tell me if they have a filter that may have caused it, I let everybody know. The winterchase on hotmail was already getting spammed and I don't want the same thing to happen to the brmemc winterchase address. The hotmail account is a throw-away address to guard against that, among other things, happening.

You'd be surprised what "good old country folk" can do when they set their minds to it. ;)

Winterchase,

Just for kicks, try this code again, Just copy and paste ir as I have it. You can change the subject to what ever you want.

<a href="mailto:[email protected]?subject=Website Contact">[email protected]</a>

I kind of lost where the original post was, but advised yesterday what the situation is.

The problem was .. ME (which comes as no real surprise)! After my ISP advised with absolute certainty, and did so rather convincingly, that hotmail had a filter that caught a key word it considered offensive in the Subject bar, I spent time changing it - and it still didn't work. Something, however, about the advice my ISP gave didn't seem logical.

Then I called in my chief advisor, Jack Daniels :p , and we found it; I get dozens, sometimes hundreds, of e-mails a day on that hotmail address, 99.999999% of which get deleted and of those, 80% are tossed as junk mail. Well, I somehow tossed as junk my own address, which was why I wasn't getting them through!

I am embarrassed and do apologize.

Oh, the secret word they claimed hotmail looks for? "Scripts."

Don't be upset if I am laughing right now, because I think we have all done things just as "silly."

like I told you before. It's how we all learn by our mistakes.

BTW...Jack and I never got along, but I know this very nice guy name Morgan (He is a Captain), and we seem to understand each other.

Yeah, I know Morgan real well. We were both on the US Olympic Drinking Team back in '86. BTW, he got the rank of captain because of our basketball team. :D In addition to Morgan, Jack and myself, the starting lineup includes a tall dude named Jim Beam at center, and Ezzra Brooks at point guard. ;) The sixth and seventh men on the bench are Mogan David and some weird guy who calls himself Mad Dog 20-20. Man, we all hope he takes a bath before the season ends. The NBA asked us to join the league last week, (So's everybody else! :p ) but I think we're going to pass. (Go ahead, add "out.")

Is your team coach's name Johnny Walker? =P

Yeah, "scripts" is blocked by most spam filters, being that "scripts", besides referring to web programs, is also usually synonymous with "prescriptions", ie. the context of "Get your Viagra/Xanax/Ambien/Valium with no scripts required from our online RX pharmacy!"... script-free drugs are the most prolific spam content in the world at the moment, along with loan refinancing, and of course porn. =)

How'd you know Johnny is our coach? Cool guy, but he wears dresses, for Pete's sake. Always plaid and he keeps a cotten-pickin' knife in his sock, so we don't make fun of him - too much, except when he plays those damned bagpipes. No sense of fashion, no appreciation for rock and roll.

I called my own e-mail spam, which is why I blocked myself. I don't feel so bad. We have 1,541 people we syndicate to and occasionally we hear from them that they didn't get what we sent and threaten bodily harm. And, brother, does it ever make me feel good to tell them what they did wrong, like I know what I'm doing with a computer! I AIN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS DONE IT, I JUST KNOW HOW I DID IT! :p

I used to play with Johnny back in the days, when he was coaching the Cougars. Ol' man Walker taught me and my other good buddy, a dark-skinned fellow we just called Black Douglas, everything we know about the game. Ahh, those were the days! =)

Well, live and learn, but for the record, "scripts" is still a commonly blacklisted subject line keyword anyway. =P

Sounds like we might have played on the same team.

The word script and/or scripts are/will be removed as noted. Thanks for the tip.
