Help, search box to search external database

Greetings all,

I am new to web design, well i know a little bit and learning still..
I usually search the web for tutorial when i'm stuck.

Anyway, I am tryin to embed a search box which will search an external database.

an example is from this website..
http://www.marrickville.nsw.gov.au/l...ml?s=647493084

where you can search the catalogue...

basically i want to do something similiar to the library website.

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

If you want to search an external database you will need that company to provide you access to their database either directly or through an API. In either case, particularly direct access, you will need to satisfy their terms and conditions and security protocols. That is of course if they allow you access in the first place.

Then you can go about integrating your solution with their database.

If you merely want to search their website then just use the google search tool that you can plug into your website.

Given they way you worded your question it's probably something out of your league for the immediate future. I suggest first creating your own database application so you can get an idea of database programming, before you start attempting to mess around with someone elses.
